Before leaving Jodhpur, a young man lead us on his motorcycle up to the fort we were looking for the night before. Fort Mehrangarh! An amazing place an a great view of the "Blue City" Jodhpur!
As we road out of Judhpur we head south. We stopped for lunch just north of Pali. After lunch we road about 100k's though road construction. That was a fun little run passing and dodging semi's etc. The do not have nice flashing orange construction signs. I think I seen one white one with black hand painted letters. We made it to Sadri. It was about 4:00 and we decided to ride another half hour.
Well it turns out the road began getting very narrow (one lane at most) and we were in the foot hills of the mountains. Many resorts etc. We were looking for cheap and this was not the area. It seemed as though a golf course may be just around the corner. We rode on. Now we were in the mountains. One lane poor road. To me it reminded me of Guatemala. Hugging the cliffs to avoid a possible bus coming around the corner.
The sun was dropping quickly and we knew finding a hotel in these small mountain villages was not possible. In fact we stopped to ask and in the hills nobody seemed to know any English at all.
They ride was so amazing and as tired as we were the concern of sleeping in an abandoned barn or something was worth it.
Around every corner we were looking for a view of a big city... It never happened and it was close to dark and we were on the east side of the mountain.
We were within 5 kilometers of the Kumbhalgarh Fort we wanted to see. Cold, tired and running out of daylight we decided to go there and see if there was a hotel. Just then we passed a sign "The Lucky Guesthouse and restaurant" The India gods were on our side! ;)
Gisuram was the owner and very excited to see us. This was and has been the coolest place we stayed at so far. Tucked into a valley just below the fort is Gisurams families home and guesthouse. He was running around doing everything to make us happy. Beer, food, parking and covering the motorcycles etc. His young nephew was helping him prepare meals etc.
A couple tour bus drivers were friends of Gisuram joined Mike and I at dinner and for some good conversation around the fire. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. We are within walking distance of the of Fort Kumbhalgarh which we will go do within the hour.
This post will be published later whenever we find wi-fi. (it is Sunday morning)
