The riding seems to be taking a toll on our bodies. (Well old man Mike will not admit it) Yesterdays ride was a mix of brand new highways and stone dirt trails. There are so many animals on the roads hauling loads of goods you would think Noah's Ark was in the next town. The new one yesterday was Elephants!
The 350 Bullet bikes are really running great. They also get lots of attention as a 350 is a very large bike here in India. Or perhaps it it us that initially draws the attention?
This city is very large. We think it is known for some huge fort up on the hill. We attempted to ride up there yesterday afternoon. I think we ended up on the back side which was good enough for us. It also took a couple hours an narrow (like 8') wide alley ways of riding.
Lets me explain these 8' streets a bit. They are mostly all this wide in the cities. Within this space you have entrances to home, shop fronts, motorcycle parking, cattle roaming, children playing, bicycle riders, Taxi cabs (small little 3 wheeled carts) all hustling! Whats amazing is everyone is happy and working together to get through the traffic. Mike and I have become experts at passing humans, animals and other moving vehicles with literally inches to spare.
Yesterday am Mike an I were both admiring our minimal packing jobs we had done for the trip. I think we each have one spare pair of sock and underwear and that is it. On the cold days, we were our two shirts and jackets. We do not even have flip flops which would be handy, but traveling light is part of the fun.
So last night we each did our normal laundry. We each did a pair of socks, underwear, and one t-shirt. (never wash two shirts in one night in case they do not dry). So out our window, I use that loosely as it is a piece of 1/8 in plywood, there is an old air conditioning frame. Perfect for hanging laundry. Were are on the 4th floor looking out at the busiest street.
At about 2:00am I hear the doors chattering and what sounds like a thunderstorm. I get up and look out the window. The craziest sight ever. Its like a tornado of garbage and trash outside. Unbelievably windy and thundering and lightening. No rain yet... And yes all our clothes including our only other change of underwear.
I decided to go down four flights of actual stairs to look for our stuff. From the winds I witness from the window, our clothes are 4 blocks away. As I made it to the last floor, the power went out. Even on the streets. So now I'm out there dodging cows, bulls, and there shit looking for our clothes in the middle of the night. scooters with no headlights still flying bye.
Mike and I may forever be changed. We seemed to have a spiritual experience when we found our underwear and one sock each!
Today we will travel South to Udiphur? sp. South from here. We may hit a small town and stay which could mean no wi-fi tonight.
The greatest part is we have no idea what today will bring!
